What trustees do
School board trustees are elected officials who govern BC’s public school districts. They set policy, approve budgets, and make decisions that determine what schools look like for every student in your community.
Those decisions are local–and they add up.
School district budget
Trustees approve how district funding is allocated–which affects class sizes, learning supports, and the resources available in every school.
Safe and inclusive schools
Boards establish policies that protect students–including anti-bullying frameworks, gender and sexuality policies, and mental health supports.
Educational policy
Boards set local policy on inclusive education, student safety, language programs, and how the district responds
when provincial funding priorities shift.
School openings and closures
Trustees vote on whether schools open, close, or are repurposed–decisions that shape communities for decades.
